What Not to Say to Someone with Cancer

Today’s little PSA from some
one currently popping pills and climbing hills:
I know most people don’t mean anything by it. It usually comes from not knowing what to say. But it’s a heavy question — especially coming from someone who doesn’t really know you.
My response?
“I don’t know… how long do you have?”
Because the truth is, none of us really know.
That question feels like something from another time — something my mom or her friends might have said when cancer looked very different. And I get it. That’s where a lot of people learned how to respond.
But things have changed.
Cancer is not automatically a death sentence. Many of us are living full, active, beautiful lives right in the middle of it.
So if you’re ever unsure what to say, you don’t need the perfect words.
“I’m thinking of you.”
“I’m here.”
Simple. Kind. Enough.
No shame. No blame. Just a little awareness from someone walking it. 💋
