What Not to Say to Someone With Cancer
Lesson #5
Well... maybe. Maybe not.
It depends on the cancer.
The stage.
The person.
The treatment.
The biology of the tumor.
Cancer isn’t one disease, and there isn’t one universal cure sitting somewhere that doctors just forgot to mention.
I know people usually say this because they’re trying to be hopeful or helpful.
But when you’re the one actually being treated for cancer, it can feel a little like:
“Have you tried the thing I heard about somewhere?”
Trust me — my doctors and I are pretty invested in keeping me around.
If there were a universal cure for cancer, I’d be leading the parade.
So instead of trying to solve it, try:
“How is your treatment going?”
“How are you feeling?”
“I’m here if you need me.”
Simple. Kind. Enough.
No shame, no blame — just a little awareness from someone walking it. 💋
