PHUQUE Cancer FriYAY

What Not to Say to Someone With Cancer
Lesson #6

“Just stay positive.”

I know this one comes from love.

But cancer is not a mindset problem.

This isn’t a flat tire. I can’t positive-think my way out of it.

Some days I’m positive.
Some days I’m hopeful.
Some days I’m scared.
Some days I’m angry.

And all of those feelings are allowed.

Being honest about having a hard day doesn’t mean I’m giving up.

It means I’m human.

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do is let someone feel whatever they’re actually feeling without asking them to turn it into something inspirational.

Try:

“How are you doing — really?”
“You don’t have to be positive with me.”
“I’m here.”

Simple. Kind. Enough.

No shame, no blame — just a little awareness from someone walking it. 💋
